WARE BRASS STUN AUDIENCE WITH A "BIG BAND" SPECTACULAR

Ware Brass put on a spectacular BIG BAND NIGHT on Saturday 14th November, at the Drill Hall, Amwell End.

Following the success of A Night at the Opera, A Night on Broadway and A Night at the Movies the theme moved to that of the Big Bands, where music from the likes of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Harry James and Maynard Ferguson were featured. The programme included Birdland and MacArthur Park in transcriptions that mirrored those featured by the legendary Marnard Ferguson, Duke Ellington's Caravan and Glenn Miller's A String of Pearls and other greats included Malaguena, Poinciana and Sing, Sing, Sing.

Soloists for the evening included Principal Cornet Mark Huttlestone, playing Marianne, and recently appointed Flugel Player Mike Burstow who gave his solo debut with Sammy Nestico's Satin 'n Glass. Star Euphonium soloist John Gafney played Be My Love and Principal Trombone Graham Evans played Pure Inagination. Regular Ware Brass concert goers were delighted to hear that band President John Sharples once again took the mike to deliver two great Sinatra numbers - Cole Porter's I've Got You Under My Skin and Kander & Ebb's blockbuster theme from New York, New York.

WARE BRASS TAKES MULTIPLE CURTAIN CALLS AT IT'S "NIGHT AT THE OPERA"

Ware Brass, renowned for putting on truly entertaining concerts, followed on from successful '40s, Film and Broadway nights, with a stunning A Night At The Opera.

There was no need to be an opera buff to enjoy the programme, in fact, many recognised music often performed from listening to Classic Fm. The world of opera provides a huge and stunning repertoire and a few of the highlights played at the concert included Georges Bizet's Carmen, and Deep Inside The Sacred Temple Mozart's The Magic Flute and Richard Wagner's Lohengrin. Puccini was represented with music from Gianni Schicchi and Madam Butterfly in tow beautiful arias sung by guest soprano soloist, Ruth Harman. Lighter opera was represented by Kurt Weill, where John Sharples provided a very Darin-esque rendition of Mack The Knife from 'The Threepenny Opera'. There was also music by Gershwin, Porgy & Bess, Rossini The Barber of Seville and our evening closed with the Coronation Scene from Mussorgsky's mammoth opera Boris Godunov.
